Audi A7 Self-Driving Car Drives 550 Miles to Las Vegas CES
The era of automated driving is upon us with tech companies, car manufacturers, and state legislatures scrambling to stay ahead of the game. Successful autonomous car demonstrations have been popping up more often, like Carnegie Mellon University’s self-driving Cadillac SRX. Audi is now in serious contention for the crown of leading the driverless vehicle race, with impressive test runs including a 550-mile road trip to CES 2015 earlier this year. “The test drive from the west coast of California to Las Vegas demonstrates our leadership role in piloted driving “, said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member and Head of Technical Development.
This milestone in automated cars was successfully tested through the joint efforts of Volkswagen Electronic Research Laboratory (ERL) and Volkswagen Group Research and Development. The new Audi A7, affectionately named “Jack”, has the ability to initiate lane changes and passing maneuvers at high speeds, while accelerating and braking independently from driver influence.
