Subaru Rules the Snow: Forester, Outback, XV Crosstrek Top Consumer Reports AWD List
There’s a chill in the air. Winter is upon us. With it comes the challenges of winter driving. Icy roads make for slippery conditions in any vehicle, but it’s much more manageable in a reliable all-wheel drive SUV and nothing has been proven to handle snow quite like a Subaru. In a recent study of compact SUVs by Consumer Reports, Subaru unanimously led the pack, beating Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and others.
According to the report, “not all all-wheel-drive systems are created equal.” Subaru handily outperformed Honda and Toyota at accelerating and hill climbing in snowy conditions and researchers found that Subaru Forester’s drive system allowed for a certain amount of wheel slip while making the climb, which helped the SUV maintain momentum up the hill. Subaru vehicles also handled corners and curves much better than their competitors, allowing the brand to stand alone as the king of the mountain.
